Monte Vista Elementary Curriculum

At Monte Vista Elementary, instruction at each grade level is aligned and focused on the National Common Core College and Career Readiness Standards for English Language Arts (ELA) and Math Instruction. Social Studies curriculum and instruction are based on the California Social Studies Standards.

Science is gradually transitioning to the Next Generation Science Standards.

As of the 2015-2016 school year, the district has adopted two major curriculums for ELA and Math instruction. For Math, Eureka Math has been adopted.  For ELA, the district's leading teachers have designed Units of Study that includes six units per grade level and integrates Social Studies and Science standards with accompanying standards progression, unit and lesson plant outlines, and formative and summative performance assessments. It also digs deep on a daily basis on the close reading instructional strategies linked to complex, rich reading passages.

In addition, the district has launched an outstanding instructional framework for the 2015-2016 school year. It is called iFit. Click here for a tour through the framework, including the supporting research, rationale, and categories for professional development for improving instruction in order to effectively teach the Common Core Standards.
